1666: Amsterdam gameplay walkthrough: Start with the Prologue for story setup, then learn the day-investigation and night-Esbat loop. Get the verified facts.

Verified facts

The free Prologue lasts about 30 minutes and covers Noa’s Commencement and companion choice. It is narrative-led, has no combat and does not show the full Original-hunting loop. The game combines third-person exploration, investigation, environmental entry puzzles, witchcraft and melee action. Players investigate by day and confront identified Originals at night.

Players gather clues and find ways into Amsterdam buildings. Entry can involve direct routes, supernatural abilities or paths opened through Aaron. Noa Brooklyn is the Collector and the witchcraft-focused lead. Aaron is a man from 1999 inhabiting her black cat familiar and enables small-space and climbing routes.

How this fits the game

Original hunts occur during a full-moon Esbat and include roguelite structure. Death resets the night and temporary coffer abilities; victory preserves acquired gains. Coffers can offer a choice between three temporary abilities. The safehouse supports recovery, lowering suspicion and potion crafting.

The launch build contains the first campaign chapter, estimated at about 15 hours. Steam describes a roughly one-year Early Access process built around gradual chapters and player feedback. Windows PC is the current platform, distributed through Steam and Epic Games Store. Both storefronts list the Early Access release dated August 25, 2026.
